"This guesthouse truly embraces a wonderful sense of traditional cultural heritage. The service is excellent, and I highly recommend it. Its location is superb, situated right near the Bell Tower and adjacent to Huayan Temple and the Daiwang Mansion Scenic Area. There are also many restaurants nearby, such as 'San Dao Cai', making dining very convenient. The service is incredibly thoughtful and personalized, and they provide a delicious breakfast. What truly stands out is that the guesthouse itself feels like a small museum; staying here offers an extraordinary experience, making it an excellent choice for any traveler."

"I chose this hotel because it is just a twenty minute walk north of Datong South Station. It is right next to Fantawild amusement park, so is a good choice for families (Most of the guests were families with young kids). Everything inside the hotel is brand new. One of the hosts at reception was exceptional, and she not only offered wonderful device and care to me but also to every guest I saw her interacting with (I didn't learn her name, alas).
One interesting note: I stayed there on a Friday and Saturday night, and there was a firework show on both evenings in Fanatwild next door. The booming sound startled me at first, but I quickly realized what it was."

"For anyone visiting Datong, I wholeheartedly recommend this guesthouse! It was the perfect first stop on my Shanxi trip, and the experience was superb. It truly operates at a high hotel standard; the attention to detail in the rooms was exceptional, even providing mouthwash and laundry detergent. Overall, from its prime location and beautiful interior to the impeccable service from the front desk ladies, everything was faultless. It's clear the owner runs this place with immense dedication and care. Both the exterior and room decor are incredibly stylish. The front desk staff and even the cleaning team were all incredibly friendly and helpful. From the airport pickup upon arrival to their help with luggage near the guesthouse, every detail was so thoughtful. During my stay, the front desk ladies were wonderfully accommodating, often assisting with packages and food deliveries. At checkout, I even received a lovely local Shanxi vinegar as a souvenir. In short, I highly recommend it. Should I return to Datong, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again."

"When traveling around the world, most people choose Holiday Inn, and this time I did not disappoint with the Datong branch. Even though it was a little pricey during the short holiday, the price/performance ratio was still acceptable.
Facilities: The hotel was newly opened in 2024, with large rooms and new facilities. It has a projection screen, a food delivery robot, and a shower, toilet and sink that are separated. Because the room is large enough, it does not seem cramped.
Hygiene: The bedding, towels, etc. are all brand new and cleaned every day.
Environment: It takes about ten minutes by taxi from Datong South Station. The location is good and it is easy to call a taxi during short holidays.
Service: Service is the highlight of the hotel. Before check-in, a staff member will call to confirm the information and provide butler service, handling various issues throughout the process. The staff in check-in, dining, cleaning, etc. are very serious and responsible, and the experience is very good.
Disadvantages: There are not many choices of dishes in the Chinese restaurant, and there is no dining in, only private rooms and delivery; there is no decoration smell in the room but there is a little smell in the toilet, but the room can be ventilated by opening the window."

"The B&B is located near Taiping Tower. The parking lot is at the entrance of the alley. It is very convenient. The Japanese style is very surprising. The small courtyard also has a landscape of dry landscape. It is very stylish. The facilities are quite exquisite. The big bed room is very comfortable and there is incense on the bedside. Camphor wood, fragrant, helps sleep. You can see the owner's intentions from details such as smart toilets and toiletries. "Living in ”Xunyou” on the first floor, the overall feeling is very good. Clean and sanitary, the interior environment is very elegant, the tatami room is large enough, with windows on three sides, but the two windows on the outside are not suitable for opening because there is construction outside. The dry area of the bathroom is also large enough to fit two suitcases, but I personally feel that there is not enough space for cosmetics, and the toilet and shower room are not big enough. We were going to the Yungang Grottoes at 7am in the morning, so we didn't have breakfast. It's about one kilometer away from the center of the ancient city, so it's suitable for a slow walk."

"Being an older hotel, the facilities are understandably a bit dated. However, its location is absolutely fantastic, very close to the attractions, and the service was excellent. We stayed in a top-floor room with a small balcony, offering stunning views of the ancient city's nightscape and the Daiwangfu drone show right from our window. The hotel restaurant comes highly recommended for its food. We did have to queue, but the wait was quicker than we'd anticipated. While the taste wasn't quite as 'astounding' as some online reviews suggested, it was arguably the best non-local meal I've had in Shanxi these past few days – a truly welcome break from dishes like Guo You Rou."

Service details: On the way from picking us up at the South Station to returning to the B&B, the proprietress introduced us to Datong's travel guide and Datong's food, which made me look forward to Datong. When we checked in, she also thoughtfully prepared welcome fruits and snacks, as well as coffee and tea. During your stay, any needs will be responded to promptly, making you feel as comfortable as at home. We came back from a day of fun and were so tired that we didn’t finish our meal. When the boss found out, he even cooked us a bowl of knife-cut noodles. He was so thoughtful. In his spare time, he would chat with us, drink tea, and make freshly ground coffee for us. Treated us like family. On the second day of our stay, the landlady gave us a surprise in the afternoon. She actually went out to buy some delicious jelly and sent it to the room, allowing us to taste the delicacy that we couldn't find on our own. I was touched by the boss lady's enthusiasm towards us.
Hygiene: The room is spotless, the bed is tidy, the mattress is moderately soft and hard, there is no peculiar smell in the bathroom, the toiletries are neatly arranged, and there is no dust even in the corners. It is very safe to stay here. The homestay was opened not long ago, and there is no trace of new decoration in the room. The decoration in the house is very design-oriented, and you can tell at a glance that it has been carefully selected and arranged. The whole house also has intelligent voice control.
Surrounding environment: The location is very good. You can see the ancient city wall in just ten minutes' walk from the Four Archways. The small scenery in the small courtyard of the homestay is also very warm and cute. You can also watch the stars in the courtyard at night, and the atmosphere is perfect.
Breakfast experience: The breakfast is rich and delicious, with local specialty knife-cut noodles (the sauce for the knife-cut noodles is made by the boss lady herself, and the taste is amazing), corn, sweet potatoes, small pumpkins, small cold dishes mixed by the boss lady herself, and fruits. You can eat a full meal every morning and start a full day.
When we left, the proprietress drove us to the jelly shop where she had eaten since she was a child to buy some delicious food, and then took us to the train station. This experience in Datong didn't feel like traveling, it felt like I was visiting relatives. They were so warm, thoughtful and considerate. This B&B is perfect in every aspect. I will definitely stay here again next time I come to Datong!

GGuest UserWe took a 23-day trip through China, staying in 9 different hotels. Without hesitation, I can say that our stay at Floral stood out in many ways. First, the hotel's structure is very beautiful and has been renovated while staying true to the traditional style of the region. The hotel room itself was probably the most beautiful we had seen on our entire trip: spacious, with windows that actually opened, good air conditioning, and modern decor and furniture without being over the top. Second, the hotel's location is within the boundaries of the city wall and is part of the old town, so beautiful to walk around and see the traditional houses - many of them renovated according to the traditional style. And third and most importantly, the kindness of the people who work at the hotel. I have never felt so welcome anywhere on holiday as at this place. Unfortunately, I arrived with health problems and needed antibiotics - equivalents of the ones I had brought from Europe. I asked the reception where I could find the closest pharmacy, but rather than guiding me there, Xiao Liu, the lady at the reception, figured out for me which antibiotic would be the right one and got it for me. The same when we needed a suitcase, rather than sending me to the shop she inquired about our desired suitcase and in one hour it was there. Drinks are complementary at any time of the day, and the breakfast (Chinese and international - sandwiches) was generous and unlimited. When we were running late coming back from the grottoes and needed to catch a train, Xiao Liu helped us out by bringing us all our suitcases directly to the train station. We will never forget all these acts of kindness and we are still grateful to her and the entire hotel staff for making us feel so much at home. Datong will stay in our minds and hearts forever thanks to the people of the Floral hotel. Datong is special enough for all the incredible cultural sights you can visit - but our stay there will never be forgotten thanks to the beauty of the Floral Hotel and its amazing people. GGuest UserNo words to describe the awesome and wonderful people from Renyi Inn. We arrived a bit too early and they checked us in directly, no questions asked.
They brought us cherry tomatoes and oranges as snacks. They even offered us a free upgrade to a bigger unused room, however we were outside most of out trip and declined.
But their hospitality goes beyond limits. Hands down one of the nicest inn I ever been too.
And they have 2 lovely pet 🦚 peacocks, how awesome is that.
Location is in Ancient town, close to everything, and the view is lovely

AAnonymous UserBecause I like big rooms, I booked a family room, and there are extra discounts for staying for three days. The hotel is on the 20th-21st floor of a building next to Datong Railway Station. Downstairs is the Aegean Shopping Park. The second underground floor is the hotel parking lot. You have to pay the parking fee in advance and the hotel will reimburse you later. The room decoration is simple, and towels, cups and other utensils are disposable. The sanitary conditions are good. The first room assigned was next to the laundry room and had a sewage odor, so we were quickly moved to another room. There is a Tonghe Hotel near the train station, which serves authentic Datong cuisine and is not expensive. There is a Fudao Noodle Restaurant on Wuding West Street, 300 meters away from the hotel, which serves breakfast at 6:30, and it tastes good.

GGuest UserThis is a fantastic B&B, branded ”Huazhu,” with attentive service and excellent quality. It's very close to the city wall, making it easy to get around, as bicycles and electric scooters are available for rent downstairs. The front desk lady was very nice and attentive, and free Tremella and Pear Soup, lemonade, and coffee were available in the lobby. While the rooms aren't very large, they're well-designed, with separate wet and dry areas and a walk-in closet, making them very convenient. Most notably, the smart air conditioning system ensures quiet operation and excellent cooling, allowing for a restful night's sleep. The breakfast is also unique, with a nine-square grid layout, each with its own unique character, catering to the elderly, children, and those craving sliced noodles. A small gift of local specialties was also given upon departure. My family said they'd stay again next time! ✅

GGuest UserThe location is superb, right within the ancient city. For those driving, parking is available at the Nine Dragon Wall parking lot, just a 100-meter walk away. Despite being in a tourist area, it offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle. Guandi Temple is also conveniently located nearby. The service was excellent, and breakfast was quite good too. Both the owner and the staff were incredibly warm and welcoming. Although the May Day holiday prices were significantly higher than usual, the convenience made it completely worthwhile. Highly recommended!

Location:
- Nestled a quieter part of the ancient city, that provided a peaceful retreat after each day of exploring.
- 10 minutes to some of the attractions of the old town
- 15-20 minute walk to the popular restaurants and more attractions
- 30 minute walk to Huayan Temple and its nearby street markets.
I'm always happy to walk but if needed, I could always use DiDi to take me around.
Falling asleep without street noise is something I like. There is a bit of building work going nearby, which is happening all over Datong Ancient City, but nothing too major.
Nearby is the Ancient City's wall, but walk past that and you can see the locals dance in the morning in the park or walk along the canal/moat in the evening.
Room:
The room was surprisingly spacious, offering plenty of room to spread out and relax, a welcome change from cramped city accommodations. The staircase is a bit narrow, so those with lots of big luggage might struggle (no lift)
Importantly, it was very clean and well equipped. I especially liked the Chinese tea ceremony set!
Service:
- Despite a noticeable language barrier, everyone went above and beyond with smiles, helpful gestures, and clear efforts to communicate.
- Especially the manager, who told me about local food to try, things to do and asked if I needed anything. She noticed that I was bringing back leftovers from the restaurant, and bottled drinks from the shops, and said I could use the fridge.
- I can't speak Chinese so when the delivery driver came to drop off my order, the staff will take it from the reception and bring it to me.
- Unfortunately, breakfast isn't available here
- Drinking water topped up. Humidifier and mosquito repellent were provided when needed.
I will not hesitate to book here again on my next visit and I highly recommend this hotel for anyone seeking comfort and genuine warmth in Datong!

黄黄善博The hotel was the priciest that we stayed at during our 45 days in China, though the beds, space, and bathroom were the nicest out of them all. For the price, I would’ve hoped that the staff would’ve been a bit more helpful—no elevator and many bags to carry up the three flights of stairs was really quite difficult. The staff also don’t speak any English at all, and my friend doesn’t speak any Chinese, and we didn’t really understand that you needed to put down a deposit of 100rmb that would then be refunded to you (or that they needed a Chinese phone number too; I didn’t have one, and as a foreigner traveling through China, if I had been by myself or didn’t know or have any Chinese friends with Chinese numbers, I would’ve been unable to check-in).
The hotel was very nice nonetheless. Fantastic location, very close to everything. The walk to the old city wall took about an hour, and would’ve been a ten minute taxi ride. The street the hotel is located on is full of lots of local shops and restaurants, and feels very lively during the day. The staff was also very friendly and enjoyed speaking with the foreigner at the hotel (although I had some trouble understanding the Shanxi accent! Jin Chinese is not my strongest!).
The WiFi was a bit slow. But the beds were incredible. Huge, clean, soft. Pillows were lovely. Bathroom was huge. Just wish there’d been a bit more service from the front desk. Was a tad weird to get up at 5:50am to go to the Hanging Temple 悬空寺, which is very normal, to see the woman at the front desk asleep… it was fine, but still a bit weird.
